"(dude), are you kidding me!?!!"
There was a time about two years ago, that I sat in my living room late one night, reading a book about potty training, that I realized all of the sudden parenting JUST GOT REAL! The idea of having to teach my child a life skill with the possibility that, if I totally suck at teaching her things that aren't a natural habit, like say, walking upright, blinking your eyes, or breathing, that her life will forever be effected in a basically BAD way. It was time to get a grip, learn to communicate with my 26 month old daughter and be the best damn teacher there ever was.
Yeah....it's that time again!
At Sissy's well child visit this month, our pediatrician told me it was now time to start teaching her to read. "Read? Seriously? (dude), are you kidding me?" As quickly as I said the word, "dude", I was glad our pediatrician also knows us on a semi-personal lever so he wasn't phased one bit! But yes, it's time to teach Sissy to read so she gets put in the advanced-smarty-smart kid class as soon as kindergarten vs. the special table of kids who need extra help because they've eaten too much sand and glue. The Doctor's analogy, I swear! So I went out, bought the BOB reading books that were recommended and am now determined to teach Sissy to read before the 2014 Fall school start.
Terrified may be one word to describe how I'm feeling. Excited may even be used....but not too often ;)
